1) Alien97 Screen Saver
Your Alien97 package comes with a copy of Matthias Huebner's
"StarFlight Alien97 Edition" screen saver program. The enclosed
installation batch file "Alien97 Screen Saver Install" should
allow for an easy setup. When the batch file is run, the
following two files are copied into their proper destination
folders:
ALIEN97 FILES ---> SYSTEM FILES
---------------------------------------------------------------
Alien97 Screen Saver.scr ---> C:\windows\system\StarFlight''Alien97-Edition''.scr
Alien97 Screen Saver Config.ini ---> C:\windows\StarFlight.ini
a. Install error message.
-------------------------
"Alien97 Screen Saver Install" will work only if it is run from
within its installation folder -- this is usually:
C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes
If you have installed Alien97 in another folder, just make sure
all component files are together within the same folder and
that you run the "Alien97 Screen Saver Install" from within this
folder. Just open your Windows Explorer and go into the folder
that contains your Alien97 files. Find the icon for the "Alien97
Screen Saver Install" and double click on it to run the program.
This should resolve the problem.
If the batch file is unable to copy these files into the proper
folders, you will need to do this manually. After these files
have been copied, please go into the desktop "Display Properties"
to activate the "StarFlight Alien97 Edition" option under the
screen saver tab.
b. Features.
------------
StarFlight Alien97 Edition is an animated screen saver that
emulates warp drive space flight. You can customize the star
field in any number of ways including color & number of stars
as well as observer vantage point. The default setting for
Alien97 is for a "dynamic" point-of-view providing for an
interesting roving view of outer space.
StarFlight Alien97 Edition also comes equipped with sound
effects capabilities. You'll find a customized .wav file
labeled "Alien97 Screen Saver Loop.wav"; this file can be looped
for a continuous (and ominous) ambient sound in keeping with
the sci-fi/horror motif of this desktop theme.
c. Optimized performance.
-------------------------
Please note: StarFlight Alien97 Edition has been optimized for
machines running Pentium processors with adequate memory
resources. On Intel 386 & 486 machines, it may be necessary to
reduce the number of stars to avoid screen blank-outs and jerky
star movement.
d. How to contact the author.
-----------------------------
For more information about the StarFlight screen saver as well
as future upgrades you can find Mr.Huebner's home page at:

2) Alien97 Logo Install
The following section gives information about what to do if
"Alien97 Logo Install" returns an error message.
Please note: Your "Alien97 Logo Install" will only work if it
has found all three system splash bitmap files and the
corresponding Alien97 replacement files.
a. If it can't find the original system files.
----------------------------------------------
"Alien97 Logo Install" first attempts to locate the boot drive;
this is the drive from which your computer "boots-up". The
boot drive is always an uncompressed drive. Therefore, if
you are using a compressed drive (such as Windows DriveSpace3)
you should specify the drive letter of the HOST drive. On
most computers this is drive H: -- if you received an error
message it may mean that your host drive letter is different.
On most non-compressed drives, the boot drive is usually
drive C: -- again, if you received an error message it may
mean that your boot drive letter is different.
"Alien97 Logo Install" assumes your windows folder is located
at C:\WINDOWS This means that your root drive letter is "C"
and that your Windows folder is named "WINDOWS". If this is
not the case (as with WindowsNT), "Alien97 Install" will
prompt you for the correct information. If, after prompting,
you still get an error message, double-check to see if you
indeed have the three system splash files on your machine.
(See table below for file names)
b. If it can't find your Alien97 splash files.
----------------------------------------------
"Alien97 Logo Install" will work only if it is run from within
its installation folder -- this is usually:
C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes
If you have installed Alien97 in another folder, just make sure
all component files are together within the same folder and
that you run the "Alien97 Logo Install" from within this folder.
Just open your Windows Explorer and go into the folder that
contains your Alien97 files. Find the icon for the "Alien97
Logo Install" and double click on it to run the program. This
should resolve the problem.
If you are still having difficulties, you can manually replace
the splash screen files by copying the following three files to
new destinations:
ALIEN97 FILES SYSTEM FILES
-----------------------------------------------------
Alien97 Logo (Start).bm1 ----> C:\logo.sys
Alien97 Logo (Wait).bm2 ----> C:\windows\logow.sys
Alien97 Logo (End).bm3 ----> C:\windows\logos.sys
